LAN CONNECTION ISSUE
« on: 08 June 2011, 12:07:28 pm »

Hello,
Last week I received SheevaPlug (SP) with Guiplug.
All seem ok, except one problem with LAN connection: I do not understand why the SP loses the connection to LAN.
I explain better the situation.
After switching on SP shows me correctly the IP address assigned by my WiFi router (FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN Annex A, Firmware version 08.04.49)

Code: [Select]
[email protected]:~# ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr f0:ad:4e:00:6c:2f
          inet addr:192.168.1.3  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::f2ad:4eff:fe00:6c2f/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:92 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:114 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:24599 (24.0 KiB)  TX bytes:13412 (13.0 KiB)
          Interrupt:11

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:76 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:76 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:6528 (6.3 KiB)  TX bytes:6528 (6.3 KiB)
So I can connect to SP with VNC
After undefined period I cannot connect to SP any more: I check and SP lost the IP address
Code: [Select]
[email protected]:~# ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr f0:ad:4e:00:6c:2f
          inet6 addr: fe80::f2ad:4eff:fe00:6c2f/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:571 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:525 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:61818 (60.3 KiB)  TX bytes:248589 (242.7 KiB)
          Interrupt:11

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:1344 (1.3 KiB)  TX bytes:1344 (1.3 KiB)

What was happened? I have tried with to different router, but the problem is the same.
Please advice, many thanks.

Hi csantamb73,

Not come across that with the Guiplug before, first thing to do is try a different Ethernet Cable.

Also have you modified /etc/network/interfaces? If so comment out the Eth0 code, Gnome Network manager handles that itself.

I have changed the ethernet cable: yesterday evening lan connection was ok.
I left sheeva running.
This morning I tried to connect but it does not run: the same problem.
Note: concerning /etc/network/interfaces is as default. Do I need to change something?

A couple more thing to try,

- Boot to Debian on the Nand and see if the problem still occurs.

- Try a fixed IP address instead of DHCP.

Are there any log messages that look useful when it diconnects?
