I've experimented with WOL and I have not succeeded in waking up a Sheevaplug. I suspect that WOL functionality has been excluded because the low power requirement of the plug suggests that it would normally be used in an always-on scenario.

We use shutdown -h or shutdown -P, but I agree that it seems odd that the system does not completely shut down (especially in view of the WOL issue). I will try to find out more.

Sorry to take so long to come back on this.

I have confirmation from above that there is no function whereby the plug can be completely powered down, since it is assumed that such a low powered device may not be required to ever shut down.

And there is no WOL functionality.

Thanks
I have to remember NOT to power down.
Normally I powerdown and then remove power when the lights go off.
It's to minimmize the risk of power spikes when removing power.

With SheevaPlug I can't do that as i normally don't have a console connected.

But if I want to powerdown, Can the plug be damaged by just removing power ?

We'd recommend a halt or a shutdown -h or shutdown -P first (then wait 10 - 15 seconds). You could trigger a shutdown either by ssh'ing in or with something like webmin (overkill for just shutdown, but with lots of other functionality besides).

With 2 unit's it's nice to power off/on of the  powered off unit.
Is it's possible to get a visual indication when powerdown is completed ?

Can one of the leds be turned of during shutdown ?

There are some threads about controlling the LEDs at plugcomputer.org:

Thanx

Code:
cat /sys/class/leds/plug\:green\:health/trigger
[none] nand-disk mmc0 timer heartbeat default-on

Code:
echo "64" > /sys/class/leds/plug\:green\:health/brightness

Code:
echo "none" > /sys/class/leds/plug\:green\:health/trigger
cat /sys/class/leds/plug\:green\:health/brightness

I should have provided this one too, I found it after making my previous post. Although it relates to the PogoPlug, it may still be relevant.
