For my Sheevaplug eSATA I have followed this much known tutorial. However, the author does not include the GuruPlug Server in the supported models (well, in a status update he actually says that it might work on Guru but that "it seems that there is no u-boot yet that can load a kernel from the ext3 filesystem").

What are the current developments in this field?
Is there any distro other than Debian one can install on an eSATA HD and boot from there?
Ubuntu 10.04 would be a dream.

AFAIK There have been some recent relevant developments on the U-Boot front, but so far as Ubuntu concerned the issue is (lack of) support for the processor.
