Can someone help, i have just received a Meteo Sheeva and am trying to set it up. I have tried to connect to 192.168.1.77 on the internet so I can set up the meteohub software but on Firefox i get the message 'The server at 192.168.1.77 is taking too long to respond'
I would be grateful if someone could explain the hardware setup and also why I cannot get into the address (192.168.1.77).

What is your local network setup - are your local addresses 192.168.1.x?

Have you tried establishing a serial connection to the Meteohub plug?

You won't be able to connect via LAN if you can't get to 192.168.1.77. Of course your LAN cable should be connected, otherwise you certainly won't be able to see the Sheevaplug. The serial connection would allow you to verify that the plug is active, but if you are a beginner, may be more tricky than investigating your network setup.

On the network side of things, do you have a router or modem, how are they connected to your PC, and what is the O/S on your PC?

Under Windows, you can determine the IP addres sof your PC by typing ipconfig at a command prompt (start / programs / accessories / command prompt)

My computer is connected to a wireless router/modem and my os is xp.
Unfortunately I won't be able to try again for a day or two, but would be grateful for your help when I try again!
Many thanks for your help so far...

You didn't say how the Meteohub is connected to your network (it may be relevant to solving the problem).

You need to:

* Determine the IP address of your PC.

You may need to:
* Figure out how to set a new local network address range on your wireless router/modem. (ie set up local addresses to 192.168.1.x instead of whatever it is now).

Hi

I think you need to use Internet Explorer and not Firefox for ip access

That's no internet address. It's a local (internal) network address which cannot be routed, ie : invisible from internet.
Where is that address coming from ? Is it the plug default address ?

Can you describe the way the plug, the PC, the wireless/router are connected ?
Unless at some point the plug and the PC both have addresses in the same range (192.168.1.x), they won't communicate.

Why wouldn't FF do the job ?

You are right. I was able to access the meteohub with FF in this instance, but in my experience, some network attached devices cannot be accessed with FF but I don't know why!

Thank you all for your patience!
If I can start afresh this is what is connected at the moment.
My PC is running xp and I am connected to the internet via a belkin wireless router, for the moment I won't connect the sheevaplug either by Lan or usb.
Can you give me the order in which I should connect which cable and how to establish connection to my sheevaplug and then ultimately my weather station to my meteo sheevaplug.
Many thanks
Stephen
Ps. I don't mind using Firefox or internet explorer

Can you give me the order in which I should connect which cable and how to establish connection to my sheevaplug and then ultimately my weather

  • connect ethernet cable from Meteohub to modem / router
  • connect power cable to Meteohub and switch on power
  • Wait 45 seconds
  • On PC, open browser to http://192.168.1.77
  • Login with username and password meteohub / meteohub

Meteohub will work regardless of whether you plug in your weather station or not. Pardon the pun.

If you can't connect to http://192.168.1.77 you need to tell us about your network setup, starting with the network settings on the Windows PC:

ipconfig /all
