I found this information http://www.weewx.com/docs/sheeva.htm

where the user got the same error message but was able to run runme.php in Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu and have tried the following in the terminal window:

sodu apt-get install php5-cli

this worked and I got php but I just could not run the runme.php file.

I tried :

php runme.php nand

sodu php runme.php nand

sodu -i

(then the above commands again)

I always get "you must be root to run this)

The answer is probably so simple but it is driving me mad I've spent hours reading and trying to understand how to get this sheevaplug installer to actually run in windows or Linux. Can someone please put me ou of my misery!?

Many thanks!!!!!!!

PHP has changed such that the method of checking the current user no longer works. You have to remove those checks from the php script.

Thanks for that Marcus. I have now got a bit further!

The program runs as follows and appears to actually write to the Sheevaplug but then fails with the same error message even after it has been connected it says it cant connect!? I now have the blue light back on for whatever that it worth. I have tried unplugging the sheevaplug then plugging back in and running the script straight away. Is there anything eles I am missing given the script below?

Thanks!

« Reply #18 on: 21 August 2010, 12:00:51 pm »

I have just tried putty access to the sheevaplug in windows XP and I am able to login to the sheevaplug using the user root and password nosoup4u.

Given my previous post and the error that far on in the installer what exactly has failed to install? Have I got incomplete uboot installation?

Is there a way I can complete the installation another way now that I have a command prompt in Putty? Or should I consider that it must have installed despite the error?

Many thanks

I then have a cursor from which I can type a command, it then asks me the password when I type nosoup4u it says it is incorrect and asks me for the ubuntu login so I type root then password nosoup4u and I get the following:

wrote file uboot.bin to NAND flash 0 up to offset 0x00074000 in 202.239090s

You successfully rewrote U-Boot - see the message above.

The rest is what happens when the plug reboots with the new U-Boot, new environment variables, and a suitable USB stick. The plug then rewrites the rootfs on the NAND drive.

Your subsequent login prompt is perfectly normal:

Code:
ubuntu login:

You were being asked for a user name, not a command.

Many thanks!

I would never have know about removing that line and the latest version of PHP it doesn't mention it on any of the installer notes or in any similar forum threads.

So in Layman's terms the installer ran sucessfully and the error is of no concern?

Cheers!

Yes, from what you say everything seems to be as it should now.
