Hello,

My sheevaplug was running happily last night. I used it as a printserver and ircbouncer. When I woke up today in the morning, the sheevaplug wasn't running anymore. I tried to unplug and replug it but none of the lights are turning on, neither the power nor the activity. My guess is that the psu is dead even though I didn't really put it under any stress. The printer connected via usb had its own power supply and the system was booted from the SD.
I bought my sheevaplug in December last year so I don't know if this is still covered by the warranty?

Kind Regards

Chris

p.s. (of course I bought the sheevaplug from newIT)

We either have, or are about to receive some replacement PSUs. Please e-mail jason@newit.co.uk, quoting your original order details.

FWIW, I have three original Plugs and two of them have already burned their power supplies. It definitely looks like the temperature goes too high and electrolytic capacitors dry and evaporate...

When the first power supply burst, I replaced it with the internals of the Sony Playstation Portable power supply. They are almost identical inside / outside. This unit has been working with the replacement for seven months now.

Yesterday my second Plug died. I cut out the power supply and soldered in a USB cable, I now plug into any USB power supply. Works very well.

I use the Plugs in a 24/7 server environment, so they are plugged to a UPS. Unfortunately this requires double voltage conversion (12V to 220V by the UPS and then 220V to 5V by the Plug power supply). To make this more effective, I replaced the UPS with a big 12V power supply that is buffered with two 18Ah batteries. I furnished this PS with 12V->5V converters ended with USB sockets. This way I have a very effective, buffered 5V/12V power supply capable of powering a number of low - voltage gadgets, including Plugcomputers, DSL modems, routers / switches. This way I got rid of a number of power supplies and the temperature in my little rack enclosure dropped from 45 to 40 celcius. Worth considering... USB=Universal Supply Bus Wink)

Yes, powering the plug throught USB port run fine...

On my plug, I have connected a 7 ports USB hub with external power supply and when I want to stop the plug, I'm obliged to stop the hub power supply so !
