The network on my Guruplug Server Plus dies when i connect any USB device.
Plug has only been running just fine with an esata hdd and when I connected a powered USB hdd today the network went dead.
Then I tested with an USB stick with same result plus that the stick got corrupted and I had to use Super Stick Recovery Tool to bring it back to life.
Also tested a USB lamp and its dead too, so it seems there is no power at all on the USB.
If the USB unit is connected when starting up the device the network works, but USB is dead.
Anyone experienced anything similar? Any ideas what might be wrong?

(edit)
some progress
I changed from Gigabit to 100MB and now network wont die when connecting a USB device but USB is still totally dead tho.
Anyone know if there should be 5v on the USB connectors at all times when plug is turned on or if it has to be activated somehow?

Hello

My USB is dead too, no 5V power any more (yes there should be power after the plug has started up). I read somewhere that the USB-power can be turned off and on through one of the GPIO's, but since I reinstalled Debian and I did not get the USB-power back, I assumed it is broken. I sent it back to NewIT just a few days ago.

Yeh I guess my I have to accept that my USB is dead.
eth1 is constantly going down too, even tho both eth0 and eth1 is 100MB and I have a big fan aimed at the plug.
This plug is going back as soon as they have revised version in stock.
I got informed that we have to for pay return shipping. About 20 to 30 euro from Sweden.
In my opinion Globalscale should show their good will and take that cost.

As far as I'm informed you wouldn't send your plug to Globalscale, but to NewIT, they can deal with GS then.
Thus, I don't think you'll pay more than 10 euro for shipping, and even these might be covered by the warranty.
At least in Germany the vendor HAS to cover any shipping costs resulting from a defect covered by warranty.

But I think these questions will be answered as soon as the revised units are in stock and all of a sudden hundreds of people
will want to send their plugs back *g*
