I just got a black SheevaPlug eSATA this week.

I've read that some people have had issues with broken power supplies when connecting USB drives. I've also read that there is a rumored improved power supply but I'm not sure if it's in my plug.

Is there any way to tell which power supply my plug have ? The spec on the bottom says USB output 5V/780mA
Should I worry about connecting a 2.5" drive which draws its power from the USB port ?
Should I worry about connecting a 3.5" drive which have external power ?

I would prefer to use the 2.5" drive since it's a lot smaller and easier to handle but I would also like to avoid breaking my new toy.

Jason has the confirmed answer to this. So far as I understand it there is an improved power supply in the eSATA units that we currently have in stock. (Even if I'm wrong about that, the device is guaranteed and we will be receiving replacement PSU boards to cover those that have failed ).

The first two topics here shed some light on factors that affect the performance of the power supply.
