I have a Sheevaplug which has functioned as my domestic server for the last 6 months or so.

On Saturday, my wife unplugged it (aaaaaargh!) and when it was plugged back in again it didn't boot as normal but instead the two NIC LEDs and the green LED on the top all flash in sync about twice a second.  Nothing else happens.  Pressing the reset button produces no effect - not even a break in the rhythm of flashing.  If you disconnect all the leads (including the power lead) the flashing continues for about 15 to 20 seconds.  I've tried connecting it to a Linux box via USB to access the console, but the plug isn't seen as being a USB device at all.  There are no log messages when you plug it in, and of course /dev/ttyUSB0 doesn't appear.

Presumably some element of the system is trying to signal something by flashing the LEDs.  Anyone any idea what, and whether there is any possible way of recovering it?

TIA,
John

This does not sound good. If the plug was purchased from us, please send your order details to jason@newit.co.uk, describing the symptoms and the tests that you have performed.

It seems that computers do not like when their are switched off  Grin  Some days ago I switched off Sheeva and Router after about 3-4 mounts uptime and they both don't want to switch on back - both lost their's power supply.

No - it wasn't bought from you - although I have now ordered a replacement from you.  I bought it direct from the USA before you were offering them.

I've now had a response from Globalscale.  They think it's the PSU and have offered to sell me a replacement PSU for $9.95, which seems very reasonable.  If that works then I should have a Sheevaplug and a spare, which is quite handy.

Cheers,
John
