Multitasking?

I'm new to Linux and Sheevaplugs
I've started a massive copy job over the network from a NAS to an attached usb drive on my sheeva.
Obviously i've lost my # prompt (whatever you call it, command prompt?), is there anyway to check the job's progress?
I guess if i'd created a network share of the job's destination before starting it, i could have monitored the progress remotely from my win7 machine by just watching the folder fill up.
