It's neat the way the plug comes with matching white ethernet and power lead. Although low power consumption is a key feature I have reset the thing once so far by removing the mains lead. Quite a tight fit.
There is no power switch.

So someone needs to tell the manufacturer about Commision Regulation (EC) N0 1275/2008 commonly known as "lot 6" which came into force on 7 Jan 2010 and required all new electrical devices to have an on off switch or an automatic low power mode.

The SheevaPlug is always in low power mode 5V/3A.

Insert the electrical plug from the Sheeva into a switched socket. When you need to switch the Sheeva off do a shutdown -h, wait a couple of minutes and switch off the plug at the wall/switched socket. Job done.

Shutdown -h  Smiley good to know.

EU regulations require <1w this year, <.5w in 2012. Switch must be on unit, wall switches don't count.
Seems trivial doesn't it. At my work we are introducing features to comply that will save our customers altogether over £6 million in electricity the first year. That's not so trivial.

After reading the regulation.. i think these units fall out of scope, due to them not "being intended for domestic use", they are development kits.
But i will pass on your comments to the manufacturers and will post their response.

I put a cheap inline switch in the power cable, as my SheevaPlug is on an unswitched powerstrip and it is useful to be able to toggle the power sometimes without yanking out the cable.
