UbuntuGeek mentioned that some armel builds for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot are coming available - see http://www.ubuntugeek.com/ubuntu-11-10-beta-2-oneiric-ocelot-released.html - so can we hope to see this on the DreamPlug etc on or soon after Ocelot Day on 13th October?

The announcement for 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - see http://www.ubuntugeek.com/ubuntu-12-04-named-precise-pangolin.html - also makes big noises about ARM.

Can we finally see a way forward from Jaunty without jumping ship from Ubuntu altogether?

Seconded - I've just purchased the Dreamplug with Debian because the Jaunty just seems a little too out of date. And as similar as Ubuntu and Debian are, the last 24 hours of setting up have been far more difficult than I feel they needed to be with a more modern Ubuntu installed.

I'm guessing that we need custom images made for the device, so the design and implementation is waaay over my head… but to have Oneiric soon-ish really would be nice!  Smiley

That is entirely up to you guys, it is not that difficult (once a distro has been built, that's the hard bit).
You have a few weeks reading time before the distro's are going to be ready for ARM, so why don't you go visit the Ubuntu faq/forums and find out how it's done.

You don't have to design anything, and I would hardly call typing 'debootstrap' or 'apt-get upgrade' heavy implementation.
You have access to a great OS, isn't it time for you to learn a little about it Smiley

Oh, and if you really don't want to learn how to do it yourself, you can always pay someone to do it for you (just as if you were using windows).

Advocatus Diaboli - My agenda is not to give you the answer, but to guide your thoughts so you derive it for yourself!
