Hi, I'm using my SheevaPlug as a NAS. I attached a drobo via USB and have afpd running with netatalk. So far works good. The Plug is using Gigabit ethernet.

Everything works find but the USB speed is IMO very slow. And I somehow think it's not running at USB2 speed... I can see that data is written in 30MB/s bursts to the sheeva, and that the transfer rate goes up and down in waves. So the network seems to be fast enough but the write speed to the drobo is not constant. The drobo is using EXT3 as file-system.

Maybe something else isn't configured optimal but I don't have a clue what to check for. Any idea?

What is the drobo spec? Some are reported to do say 10 MB/s.
Is your processor running at full speed? (On the Dreamplug you can examine 'cat /proc/cpuinfo')
