Hi All,

I'm looking for help with getting LVM snapshots to work.

I have obtained a SheevaPlug (based on Ubuntu 9.04). I have updated all packages (but not the distribution).

I have created a LVM PV, VG and LV on a external storage device. This is fine. However, when I attempt to create snapshots I get this:

Code:
root@torn-backups:/mnt/backups# lvcreate --name=today --size=65G --snapshot /dev/external_storage/backups
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.22.18/modules.dep: No such file or directory
  /sbin/modprobe failed: 1
snapshot: Required device-mapper target(s) not detected in your kernel
Run `lvcreate --help' for more information.

Code:
root@torn-backups:/mnt/backups# modprobe dm-snapshot
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.22.18/modules.dep: No such file or directory

Any clues?

Many thanks,

Alex

Alex -

The missing module messages are typical of an original ex-factory plug.

If those messages offer the clue as to the solution, are you considering upgrading the kernel? Kernels are available at http://sheeva.with-linux.com/sheeva/ and to use them you will have to repartition (to make room for the new kernel) or use an SD-booting solution.

if I were you, I'd do the kernel upgrade and then check to see if the problem persists.
