accidentally erased u-boot on my sheevaplug

Hi everybody,

I accidentally erased u-boot on my sheevaplug (nand erase 0x0 0xa0000).
Now the sheevaplug didn't boot anymore. I get only a dark screen on my serial console   
Is there a guide who to "repair" that problem?

ok, I tried the installer last night (in a dos box under win xp), but I allways get the error 'ftdi device not found'.
(although I had no problems in the past with the connection with putty over serial console. But perhaps it is a problem
with win xp and bootcamp?)

I will now install vmware player and a linux-distribution and will try it that way.

Hello again,

I have now installed VmwarePlayer with Ubuntu 9.10 to try it that way.
I installed libftdi1 as described in the plugcomputer.org - wiki.
Then I add ftdi_sio to the kernel:
'modprobe ftdi_sio vendor=0x0403 product=0x6010'
(I get the vendorid and  productid with the tool usbdeview)

In the virtual machine I download the Installer and changed the vendor und product id also in sheevaplug.cfg

I connect the sheevaplug und run lsusb to check if it is recognized. I see:
...
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0403:6010 Future Technology Device International, Ltd FT2232C Dual USB-UART/FIFO IC
...

And think this looks good. So I start 'sudo php runme.php nand'
but after a view lines of screen-output I see at the end again:
'Error: unable to open fdti device: device not found'

Hello again,

the problem is solved. I forget to delete the line:
ft2232_device_desc "SheevaPlug JTAGKey FT2232D B"
in the sheevaplug.cfg

On Win XP I did that and had no success.
In the virtual machine it works now!

Topic can closed! I am glad my sheevplug works again
(and I learned a lot of new things in the past 2 days)

Thanks for the info. I never would have guessed that a virtual machine would be able to communicate with a Sheevaplug; for some this is likely to be extremely useful.

Did you have Windows drivers installed?

why not?
In the wiki (http://plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/SheevaPlug_Installer) I read that the Installer works also with LINUX (cit.: "On Linux host run 'sudo php /runme.php'").

On my MacbookPro I have bootcamp installed with a Win XP partition.
So I installed VMware Player on WinXP and in the virtual Machine I installed an Image of Ubuntu Server 9.10.
And out of Ubuntu in the Virtual Machine it is no problem to communicate with the sheevaplug.
(I must not install any windows drivers in Ubuntu)

I wouldn't have expected the Virtual Machine to have the necessary access to the USB connection.
