Hello,

I am trying to install Asterisk and FreePBX on my Sheevaplug (A1 version), on the Debian Squeeze distro (image from Newit).

(The version from Plugpbx does not boot, so I am not using that one.)

The automatic install script ( http://www.corenetworks.com.au/wiki/doku.php?id=debian_asterisk_freepbx_script ) needs to have the kernel source and headers available.

Now I stumbled onto something funny.

The plug is running kernel 2.6.34.6. The script gives the error that it cannot find the packages linux-source-2.6.34.6 and linux-headers-2.6.34.6. In debian synaptic they are indeed not available, the most recent available version being 2.6.32.

It turns out that 2.6.34.6 is not used by debian (yet)??

Did Newit use a non-debian-kernel, for any special purpose??

How come and how can I fix this?

We chose a kernel independent of the O/S, and one that we would use for any / all OSes that we installed.

2.6.34.6 was a recent kernel with no significant bugs. Our source uses the sheeva.with-linux patches with one additional patch for detection of the SD card when booting from NAND.

You should be safe in choosing your own kernel, either from debian or from sheeva.with-linux.com, or downloading the appropriate (by version number) headers from sheeva.with-linux.com/sheeva/. The scripts there will happily "downgrade" without protest, or you can download from Debian. I believe that if you do choose the official Debian kernel, that you may need to perform an additional step after downloading in order to place the kernel in the appropriate location (ie NAND partition).
