I'm tearing my hair our at the moment. My (black) eSata sheevaplug wont pick up any form of storage, full stop. I'm using Cyrius's debian installation guide, which worked fine on a USB stick - but wont work on a USB hard drive.

I'm now trying a esata drive, and it wont pickup the drive. I've formatted it as ext2 in Linux and it still wont pick it up.

During the installation, it gets as far as detecting disks then stops as it cant find any, not even the NAND!

I really need to get this sorted, but so far after spending a good 3 hours looking through here and plugcomputer.org I cant find a single thing that helps, just a discussion here how 1 person got it working, as did 1 member of NewIT staff - no files, no tutorial, no links, etc.

Really need some help here Sad

Post your uboot setting to give a clue what could be wrong.

I wanted to ask what is the "it" in "it wont pickup the drive", but I think that you mean the Debian installer. It would certainly help if you were specific about what procedure you are using. Do you mean this one?

All I can suggest regarding a USB drive is that you give it that chance to spin up; for eSATA you might need to to issue an ide reset from U-Boot. Certainly doing so will help confirm that the hardware is working.

bootcmd=run bootcmd_disk   --- that says run the parameter line bootcmd_disk

I can`t see anyway "bootcmd_disk" , so can`t see how this could run after the reset command .

So would guess that your problem is with uboot ?

I think I fixed it  Grin

I was using the pingtoo uboot however it obviously didn't work with the eSata model as I replaced it with the newit sata one provided here: http://www.newit.co.uk/uboot/ and its working now!

For anyone else stuck, this thread helped out: http://www.newit.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,267.0.html

Thanks for the replies guys - much appreciated Smiley
